Organic Standards Consultation Launches
The Soil Association is updating its organic standards to make them as straightforward, practical and transparent as possible. Together, we want our standards to have the maximum impact with the minimum of hassle for you. However, no changes are made without consulting widely on their impact and feasibility.
Today will see the launch of a public consultation into the food and farming standards. We’d love to hear your views on the proposed changes. The consultation is open now on our website, where you can also see a draft of how the new standards might look. This is your opportunity to have your say on proposals for key areas of the standards, and to help shape them further. Read more about it here.
The consultation questions are grouped together by subject, so you may wish to answer only those which relate to your area of work or expertise. Your views are really important so please let us know what you think before the consultation closes on 14 December 2016.
The proposals are based on recommendations from the independent Agriculture and Horticulture Standards Committees and have been approved by the Soil Association Standards Board. The new standards will be launched in 2017, with a suitable lead-in period for you to adapt to any changes.
We want to make sure we hear from everyone who these changes may affect, so please share this email with anyone in your organisation who would find it relevant.
If you’d prefer to respond to the consultation by phone or in writing, you can do so by calling 0117 314 5178 or writing to Standards Team, Soil Association, South Plaza, Marlborough Street, Bristol BS1 3NX.
