“The health of soil, plants, animals and (hu)man is one and indivisible.” Sir Albert Howard put it so well when he described the essential connection between what we eat and the ground beneath our feet. Or as nutritionist Michaela Mazzoni says, “you are what you eat, eats”.
We know that organic works with nature – avoiding artificial pesticides and fossil fuel-derived fertilisers – to build healthy soils, in turn growing healthy plants, and nutritious food for us to eat.
This Organic September we want to highlight the fundamental connection between healthy soil and healthy food, and encourage citizens to nourish their "gut garden" by enjoying delicious organic food that will benefit their gut microbiome. By exploring the link between soil health and gut health, we will help people understand that how food is produced affects its quality – and that it all comes back to the soil.

Indies: Organic September with vibrant marketing materials
As always we are offering independent retailers a free point-of-sale toolkit featuring colourful posters, postcards, "staff pick" cards and more. Order your point-of-sale pack by 31st July to guarantee delivery ahead of Organic September. Indies can also opt for their shop to be added to our Google Map of independent retailers which we will widely promote during the month.
Our colleagues in the Soil Association charity have created a wonderful resource for citizens, the Organic Living Guide. Featuring inspiration, helpful tips, stories and information on what organic is (and what makes it great!), the guide is ideal for sharing via email with your audiences during Organic September.
