Feldon Forest Farm, Warwickshire
George and Gill Browning have always had a love of the countryside and realised a long held dream when they bought 80 acres in Warwickshire. It took the best part of ten years to establish the infrastructure such as farm buildings, fences, electricity, a farm reservoir and Feldon Forest Farm itself – and to gain planning permission to build an earth sheltered house.
In the process they became farmers and from bare land they have created a beautiful organic oasis teeming with bird and wildlife and rich in plants and wildflowers.
The result is a truly mixed organic system with rare breeds of cattle, sheep and chickens, heritage varieties of vegetables, bees, a newly planted orchard containing over 30 traditional varieties of apple as well as pear, plum and quince, reed beds, woodland and an area of agroforestry.
George and Gill have no dependants. They both wish to stay at Feldon Forest Farm for the rest of their lives and for as long as possible to have an active role in its management. Accommodation on the farm will allow for a handing over of all or part of its day to day running, ideally offering the opportunity for a new entrant to gain experience of a diverse organic farm with great educational opportunities and potential for development of new farm enterprises.
