The Rising Star category was brand new for our 2023 BOOM (Best of Organic Market) Awards, recognising those starting to make waves in the organic movement.
This awards celebrates the people working tirelessly to tell the story of organic as part of the solution for taking care of ourselves, nature and the planet.
But there could only be one winner! Read on to learn about Sinead and Adam, our Organic Rising Stars for 2023!
Being organic was a top priority for Sinead and Adam when they set up Aweside Farm in 2020. They set about creating a space where wildlife would thrive as closely in line with natural systems as they could, and that meant organic practices had to be at the heart of their growing. Sharing their journey on social media, they've shown the process of setting up a nature-friendly business from the ground up. Growing a mix of crops including predominantly veg, salads and some flowers, they've watched the land change here over the three years. During that time their focus has been drawn towards growing more and more flowers, having seen how quickly wildlife has flocked to areas of the farm where flowers were growing and how vast the numbers have increased since the beginning of their farming journey.
"It’s important for us to share what we’ve watched happen in what was once an ex-arable field of grass in 2020, to what is now becoming a space home to more and more wildlife in just three years. It’s given us hope that by following an organic system and discovering first hand the important role flowers play for wildlife in our farming system, that real tangible change and a positive impact on wildlife is achievable. We hope to inspire people to plant more flowers and to see them as an essential part of organic systems and part of our active responses in helping wildlife numbers increase."
