New land entering conversion

New land entering conversion

It’s been a positive sign that we continue to see new land being added to existing organic licences.

As a reminder, the requirements for adding land are the same as for a new licence, i.e. a 2 year conversion applies unless a reduced conversion is applied for. One recent issue that has appeared is licensees grazing the land prior to it entering organic conversion. Three things must happen before livestock can graze the newly converted land as first year conversion forage.

1. The land in question must have been seen by an inspector with the knowledge that there is a request for it to enter organic conversion
2. A completed land extension form must have been received by the office
3. The requested start date must be before any livestock graze the land in question

If you have any questions on entering new land into conversion do call your Certification Officer who will be happy to help.
